Vinod ER

Vinod ER, born in Lahore on 28 May 1922, was a famous music director in the 1950s. Sheela Betty was his wife and he had two children- Veena Solomon and Veera Mistry. As a child, the music played at Punjabi Hindu weddings captivated Vinod which later inspired him to seek a career in the music industry. He studied music under the musical director Pandit Amar Nath from Lahore and mastered both classical and Punjabi folk music. He composed his first official record Samne Ayaga Koi Jalwa Dikhayega Koi at the age of 17. It was in 1946 that he started to compose songs for films. For his first film Khamosh Nigahen, he composed eleven songs written by Aziz Kashmiri.

His composition Lara Lappa Lara Lappa Lai Rakhda in 1949 was sung by Mohammed Rafi Mohammed Rafi is a renowned Indian playback singer >> Read More... and Lata Mangeshkar Lata Mangeshkar, the veteran playback singer, had >> Read More... in the film Ek Thi Ladki. Along with that, the song Addi Tappa Addi Tappa Layi Rakhda became a hit song. After that, he did compositions in the films Kamini and Nagin. He became a permanent composer of Shorey films after Ek Thi Ladki. When the producer Roop Kumar Shorey brought his team to Bombay, Vinod moved there too. Among the thirty-six films, thirty of them are in Hindi, and the other six are in Punjabi Language. He also wrote four non-film songs. He did compositions in Punjabi films like Saari Raat Tera Tak Ni Aa Rah and Wey Tarian Taun Puchh Chann Wey. At the age of 37, he suffered from tetanus after cutting himself while shaving with a rusted razor blade. He fell into a coma as the disease progressed and died on 25 December 1959.
