and Rabindranath Tagore, and then he started as a stage actor with Sundaram, a Calcutta group. He used to imitate young couples to entertain his friends. In 1956, he created his first actual mime act, which was about a lady dressing up in front of a mirror. He performed his first stage mime performance at Bally near Kolkata.
The audience was impressed by his mime performance, and then he started getting noticed by people. He got invites for performances at college, office, and functions. He performed on a stage with a theatre group. In 1958, he realized that he really wanted to become a mime actor. As he was learning by himself, he was unaware of the traditions of money or the ancient Natyashastra. The National Youth Festival, which was held in 1960 in Calcutta, was a turning point in his life. This provided him with a lot of invitations from all over the country and the world.
He traveled the globe several times and brought acclamation from several countries to India, like Germany, France, Bulgaria, Holland, Afghanistan, The Middle East, and many more. Numerous film units made a documentary on him in India along with Germany, Britain, and France. His popular acts in the comic category are Bus Passenger, A Naughty Boy, Walking, Hair Cutting Salon, and A Society Lady. His concern for humanistic issues can be seen in The Vietnamese Act.
Jogesh is the founder of the Jogesh Mime Akademi. With the help of the Bengali Government, it got affiliated with Sangeet Natak Akademi and Rabindra Bharati University. This academy provides a four-year course to students from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Switzerland. In 2009, he gave his final appearance on stage at Rabindra Sadan. He got The Shiromani Purashkar Award in 1985 and The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1983.
