Haimanti Sukla is a Bengali singer born on December 2nd, 1949. In Sirajgani, East Bengal, Dominion of Pakistan. She was born and raised in a traditional Hindustani classical music family. Her father, Pandit Harihar Sukla, was recognized as a Hindustani classical vocalist. Her career as a singer started in 1972 when she recorded her first song (E to Kanna noy aamar). Likewise, her father being into music, allowed her to be trained by him. Haimanti made headway in the film industry with the song (Kahan Se Aaye Badra), which she sang for the movie Chashme Buddoor. She’s also well known for one of her songs titled Amar Bolar Kichu Chilo Na, which was written by Manna De and released in 1978.

Her first Hindi playback song for a movie was Jeevan ki kitabonpar she, is not just a talented singer but has also earned herself recognition through awards like, A music award from the Pratishruti Parishad organization (1973), the best singer from Bangla Chalachitra Prashar for the movie Balok Sharatchandra (1978), Mian Tansen Award from Sur Singer Academy (1982), the Prachar Sanshad award from Bangla Chalachitra organization, for the film Bodhani (1982), Purashkar Samiti award for Ram Kahat Hai which was recorded in Hindi in (1982), Bangla Language & Literary Society, held in Singapore (1999), NABC Worldwide Millennium Celebration (1999), Kalakar Award for Best music album (2005), she was also awarded her Honorary doctor Degree in Literature on 29 October 2018 from Bankura University, West Bengal, India.

For her significant contribution to the field of Music. She has been active in the entertainment industry from 1972 till date, and some of her works are Amrita (2012), Arohon (2010), Musolmanir Galpo (2010), 1 No. Plum Villa (2009), Antarotamo (2008), Gandharbi (2002), Bhakter Bhagaban (1997), Bhalobasa Bhalobasa (1985), Chashme Buddoor (1981), Darpachurna (1980), Amavas Ka Chand (1979), Sister (1977), Asadharan (1977), Ami Se O Sakha (1977). In an interview, Haimanti assured that she has so much to give aside from being a Bengal singer. Also, she is looking forward to expanding her audience by performing at a thumri concert. To her, awards were never part of her goals, Music has a big part in her heart, and she intends to do it for a lifetime.
