Gouri Kedar Bhattacharya is an Indian Bengali Singer. He was born in 1916 in paraikora village of Chittagong District of East Bengal, British India. He died on 8 February 1983. In 1949, he married Shefali Devi. In childhood, his family migrated to Varanasi, where he received music lessons from Dhrupadacharya Harinarayan Mukhopadhyay for three years. In his mid-twenties, he was sent to Calcutta for studies, but he pursued his music interest in Varanasi, and in his school days, he was rusticated from school for singing songs during class time and within the school premises. Then, Gouri kedar started earning by giving music lessons to others. In 1933, for the first time, he sang for All India Radio, Calcutta. In February 1937, his first gramophone record was published in Hindustan Musical Products.

His gramophone records got a positive response from the audience. Hence, his records were published under different names also, like Gholam Kader for Islamic songs and Sukumar Bhattacharya for folk songs. The songs included those from films Rattan, Baiju Bawra, Awara, Naya Daur Shree 420, and many more. Gouri kedar association with the film industry started with two short Bengali films Happy Club (1936) and Kuhu O Keka (1936). He joined The Columbia in 1939. He began to record songs for the Gramophone Company in 1940.

He became the exclusive artist of the company in the year 1945. From 1940, he started singing for version records of HMV. In 1940, he acted and sang his song as Baul in Nimai Sanyas. Gouri Kedar worked as a singer, music director, and assistant music director in the movies Chandrashekar, Indrajaal, Mahasampad, Ek Aurat, and many more. He disassociated himself from The Gramophone Company in the year 1955. After that, he gradually drifted towards the spiritual world and grew close to the Bharat Sevasram Sangh, singing songs of devotion solely. On 23 April 1974, he took Sanyas.
