Munsur Ali is a Bangladeshi-born British social entrepreneur and film producer. Born on May 25, 1978, his family shifted to the UK two years later. Munsur grew up in East London, witnessing the social, economic, and political changes in 1980s England. He studied at a Church of England School and studied Arabic and Bangla correspondingly. Munsur graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Film and Broadcast Production. Soon after graduation, he started his film production company, 'Spotlight UK,' in 2005. He founded the Limelight Film Awards in 2006. It is an initiative to encourage and celebrate young talents in the film industry. In its first event, in 2007, it became a famous independent short film award ceremony. His film production company produced the widely accepted film 'Shongram.'
The film, released in 2014, tells the story of the 1971 Bangladesh liberation struggle. Munsur Ali's debutant production, writing, and direction venture, the film, reached a larger global audience. Displayed on various global stages, including the London Indian Film Festival, the Kolkata International Film Festival, and the East End Film Festival, it is the first film made by a British-Bangladeshi to be released nationally. In March 2017, he began his political career. Elected as the Labour Party Councillor in the Portsoken ward in Aldgate, London, he also became a member of the Court of Common Council, which governs the city of London. As a successful social entrepreneur, Munsur received an invitation to meet the Prince of Wales in 2012. He received the Civic Award from Tower Hamlets Council for his contribution to celebrating young artists.
