Supriya Devi is a very famous Bengali actress. She has been in Bengali cinemas for more than 50 years now. Her friends and relatives know her by the name ‘Benu’. She was born in Burma in January, 1935. Her father was from Faridpur, Bangladesh and later moved to Calcutta during . Her father was a lawyer by profession. Supriya entered the film industry at the age of 7. She was a trained dancer under Guru Maruthappan Pillai and Guru Prahlad Das. In 1954, she got married to Bishwanath Choudhury. She has a daughter named Soma. Some of her renowned films are ‘’ (2006) where she played the role of Ashima’s Grandmother, ‘Shesh Thikana’ (2000) where she was seen as Sri Radha’s grandmother, ‘Devdas’ (1979) as ‘ Chandramukhi’, ‘Dui Purush’ (1978) as ‘Bimala’, etc. Supriya gave one of her best performances in the film ‘’ where she played the role of a refugee girl bearing all the responsibilities of her family. She acted in a few Hindi films also. She was a very good friend of the veteran actor . She won the BFJA Award for Best Actress for the film ‘Tin Adhyay’ which was released in 1969. She also received BFJA Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film ‘Chinnapatra’ released in 1973. She received ‘Banga-Bibhushan’ award in 2011 for her contribution to Bengali cinema. She also received ‘Padmashri’ award from the Indian Government in 2014.
