Saumya Sengupta was born on 6 June 1987 in Bengal. He worked in Bengali films as a film director and screenwriter. Mrityupathojatri was his first experimental film which was highly appreciated by the people but he got fame in the film industry from his short documentary film I Am Joyita. From 2008 - 2011 Saumya worked as an assistant director in many TV projects like Fatafati filmy fight for Etv Bangla, The Match for Mahuaa Bangla, and Bindas Para for Rupasi Bangla, etc. After this, he worked as a reality director in many shows from 2012 - 2016 like Jhalak Dikhlaja Bangla, Ticket to Honeymoon, Jayo Hey, Great Music Gurukul Story Soon >> Read More... , Egiye Bangla, Songe Srijit a talk show.

After this, he worked on many projects as a writer and director. His first short film, Be the Change (2017), was selected at the Kolkata International Film Festival. After this, he made many documentaries like The Geocentric Man (2019) and I Am Joyita (2020). Saumya started her acting career with the film Bishorjan (2017), which was selected as Kaushik Ganguly's National Award-winning film. He also released his second short film, Chupkatha (2021).
