Malabika Sen is one of the most acknowledged Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancers of India. She is an emerging personality who has attracted audiences all over the globe because of her outstanding performances. A few of her notable performances include India Tourism Road Show in Kathmandu, London Reading Dance Festival, and Solo performance and choreography at the NABC inaugural program, USA. She hails from Kolkata, India. She was mainly raised in the former country only by her Indian parents. She did her schooling at one of the nearby schools in her city and further completed her higher studies. Later, She finished her M. Mus from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, India. She was inclined towards dancing since her childhood as she began dancing at the age of four only.
As time passed, she learned Kathak in North India and gradually became passionate about the style of Bharatnatyam. Eventually, she created a career in dance and soon was recognized as one of the accomplished dancers of India. Moreover, she earned her formal training in Kuchipudi from Sreemoyee Venkat and in Bharatnatyam from Thankamani Kutty. Also, she is considered one of the most graceful solo artists of Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi at ICCR. She has given numerous live stage performances in India as well as abroad. Her first performance was in the Indian Embassy Hall at Kuwait, Qatar in 1999, and since then, she has given plenty of performances, including the India Tourism Road Show in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2000, “Classic India” Concert at the Brownsmart Auditorium, Darwin, Australia, Guimet Musee National Des Arts Asiatiques, Paris in 2008, Performance in Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka in 2012 and Solo performance and choreography at the NABC inaugural program, the USA in 2014. She has been in the limelight several times due to her incredible eye-catching performances.
Additionally, she is also a part of the senior department of the Kalamandalam dance group. Sen’s talent has earned her plenty of achievements such as Best Performer Award from Indian Tourism Department, Calcutta, on World Tourism Day, 1999, Judged Dance Bangla Dance Season 8(2014), Winner of Didi No.1 in Season 6, spotted in Doordarshan National Programme, and contested in “Miles To Go Before I Sleep,” which was a documentary on Guru Govindam Kutty. Apart from being a classical dancer, she is an exceptional singer as well. Sen is trained in North Indian classical vocal music and Nazrul Geeti under Dr. Chameli Sarkar and Smt. Rama Basu.
