Shakti Thakur was an Indian actor, comedian, and playback singer, born in 1947 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India. He is a prominent actor and has acted in many Bengali and Hindi films. He is also known for lending his voice in several movies. He gave the cinema many hit movies, some of them being Yeh Desh (1984), Aagoon (1988), Sajanj Go Sajani (1994), etc. Thakur spent his formative years as a teacher. He later began his cinematic career in 1976 as a playback vocalist in Tapan Sinha's "Harmonium" movie. Later, appeared in movies like
and Dadar Kirti (1980). He was prosperous as an actor, and he primarily played comedic roles in films. Thakur was a singer with a classical background. He performed songs written by composers like Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, Ajoy Das, and R. D. Burman, among others.
He made his Bollywood debut in 1984 when renowned composer R. D. Burman allowed him to perform in a group song with
in the Hindi film Yeh Desh. It was also Kumar Sanu's first song. Following that, he provided his voice for several Bengali and Hindi films. In the Bengali movie Aagoon in 1988, he performed the duet "Khali Pete Korle Bhojon." with seasoned performer

, was a contestant in Indian Idol Season 2. She later became a playback vocalist in the Bengali and Bollywood film industries. Monali published a devastating statement following his passing and stated that all she is now is thanks to him. Thakur was not only a great actor but also a great singer. Thakur passed away on October 5, 2020, at 73, from a severe heart attack. Many of his fellow performers and singers paid him tribute.
