Sawon Chakraborty

Sawon Chakraborty is an Indian movie and TV actor who predominantly works in the Bengali film industry. He was born and raised in the small town of Cooch Behar between the river Torsa and in the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, in West Bengal. Sawon Chakraborty grew up in a typical Bengali family that laid a huge emphasis on culture respecting one’s roots. He completed his general schooling at a local school. After that, he moved to the city of Kolkata in order to pursue his higher education at Jadavpur Public University.

At this institution, Sawon Chakraborty first received his bachelor’s degree and then his masters of Philosophy degree from the Department of Comparative Literature. During this time he also worked at the Sylff Foundation as a research fellow as a part of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Program. In 2019, despite his budding acting career, Sawon Chakraborty also enrolled in the Ph. D programme at Jadavpur Public University..

Sawon Chakraborty was interested in acting from a young age as he grew up watching his father who was a theater artist. He grew up surrounded by thespians and soon found himself involved in many plays. Despite his interest in theater, Sawon Chakraborty was determined to make a career in academia and even took a four year hiatus from the stage in order to pursue his studies.
