Diamond Babu

Diamond Babu is an Indian media consultant and film public relations officer who works predominately in Tamil cinema. Babu was born on 16 June 1960 in Madras which is now called Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Babu's father, Film News Anandan, was one of the founding journalist, chroniclers, and managers of Tamil cinema, and he wanted his son to join the film industry.

Even though Babu was well educated and working in a bank in Delhi, he decided to live his job to satisfy his father's wishes. After he left the bank, Babu started his film club called 'Diamond' where he screened films for a close group at Sathyam, Subham and Devi Bala theatres in the early '80s.

Babu noticed that Tamil films had some censorship hiccups; it was for this reason that Diamond Babu decided to be a public relations officer (PRO). He realized that been literate in Hindi he could be the bridge between the South and North. In 1986, Oomai Vizhigal faced some problems in getting censorship, Babu stepped in and was able to liaise with the tribunal in Delhi.

The film became a blockbuster hit so were his next nine films gaining him consideration as a Lucky Tamil cinema PRO. Diamond has worked in over 600 movies as a public relations officer. In the year 2017 Diamond won an award for Best PRO at the Vijay Awards for his works on the Theri and Kabali film.
