Mullum Malarum is a family drama that centers on the married life of a couple. Dharmadurai is the elder son of the family. He is uneducated but works hard to take care of his family. His efforts are under-appreciated due to his lack of education. Kalaiarasan is the younger son of the family. He is well-educated and well-respected by his family and neighbours. Mahalakshmi is a beautiful woman, who like all women of her age, aspired to get married to the guy she loved. In a sick twist of fate, she couldn’t fulfill her dream.
Mahalakshmi and Kalaiarasan get engaged. The plot twist of the serial arrives when Dharmadurai unintentionally gets married to Mahalakshmi instead of his brother. The three of them go through many difficult arguments. At last, Dharmadurai and Mahalakshmi find happiness with each other, and Kalaiarasan comes to terms with it.
