Mr. Sunshine is a Korean language TV serial that aired on the channel tvN from 7 July 2018 to 30 September 2018 for 24 episodes. It aired on the channel every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm for one and a half hours till 10:30 pm. The show was created by Jinnie Choi. It was written by Kim Eun-Sook. The director is Lee Eung-bok, and the producers are Studio Dragon and Hwa&Dam Pictures. The series was taken in the backdrop of the world after the Shinmiyangyo (Korean Expedition), 1871. Choi Yoo-jin was a child when he witnessed the death of his parents, who were slaves, and was killed by their landlord. A potter, Hwang Yun-san, helped Yoo-jin escape his homeland, Joseon, and flee to America in one of the war ships.

He grew up as Eugene Choi in America and grew up to become a fine young man who joined the US military corps. To his despair, he was treated as a Korean in the USA and as an American in Korea. On a mission, he is promoted to the post of the U.S Acting Consul. He, along with his team is sent to Joseon. There he meets Go Ae-shin, the granddaughter of Go Sa-hong, a nobleman who is the teacher of the Joseon Emperor. Ae-shin lost her parents very young and was raised under her grandfather, who made sure she could always protect herself. She is a trained sniper and, against her grandfather’s judgement, joined the righteous army. Eugene falls in love with her while she was still wondering what the word meant.

She was very reluctant on even making friends with him. Ae-shin was arranged to marry Kim Hee-sun, a nobleman who was against the marriage as it was forced upon him by his grandfather. He flees the country but returns to find that his grandfather’s choice is immaculate. Goo Dong-mae fled the country too after his parents’ death. As a child, he was helped by Ae-shin and admires her with all his heart. In Japan, he grew up as Ishida Sho and became a Samurai. During his time in the mission, Eugene finds out that Japan is planning to colonise Joseon. It is only after a dirty bomb explodes in the state that the emperor and all others come to realise the gravity of the situation. In the end, Ae-sin, Dong-mae, Hui-seong, the righteous army, and Eugene come together to fight for their homeland.
