Kingdom is a South Korean political period horror-thriller that was released in the year 2019. The show is a mix of various genres such as thriller, horror, political and period drama. The show is set in Korea’s Joseon period, the story follows the journey of crown prince Lee Chang, who finds out about a grave political conspiracy while investigating a serious plague that is killing people in the village. The prince has been banned from seeing his ill father by the chief state councilor, Lord Cho Hak- Ju, and Queen Consort. This makes the prince desperate to find the truth about his father and when he learns the truth he is shocked to the core.

With his loyal bodyguard, Mu-Yeong he starts traveling to the southern province of Gyeongsang to get to the bottom of this. When he reaches there, he finds the physician Seo-bi and the very popular doctor Yeong-Shin who are already dealing with the plague that kills people but makes them come back from the dead in a zombie-like state. Together they all face life-threatening situations to stop the plague and to also save the kingdom from getting overthrown by the evil chief state councilor.

The plot of the show is very intriguing and was written beautifully by Kim Eun-hee. The show has been directed by Kim Seong-hun. The series is adapted from the webcomic series ‘The Kingdom of the Gods’ which was written by Kim Eun-hee. The first season of the show was released on the streaming platform, Netflix on January 25, 2019, and the second season came out in 2020. Both the seasons received great praise from critics who praised the show for its mixing of politics and horror genres. The show was also praised for its writing, acting, and production. The show’s third season was announced later in 2020 and will release probably in 2021. The show is considered one of the most popular shows on Netflix.
