The Golden Lotus Awards is also a part of this award ceremony. The Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation, set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Indian Government presents this award every year. This award was first instituted in the year 1954. It has a huge spectrum and includes films in all the languages in a year. All the award winners (Director and Producer) are awarded with a certificate and cash prize.

The ceremony for the 42nd National Film Award was held in the year 1995 to felicitate the best films of 1994. The awards were divided into the three categories of Non- Feature Films, Feature Films and books written on Indian Cinema.
