Sailadhar Baruah was a notable Assamese film producer born in December 1941. He was born and brought up in Guwahati, Assam. His parents, namely, Shri Padma Dhar Baruah and Smt Makanrekha Baruah lived in North Guwahati, where Sailadhar was born. He never married and came from a family of four siblings; three brothers and one sister. Sailadhar Baruah completed his schooling at Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School and pursued his undergraduate degree in Science at Pragjyotish College in Guwahati.

He is most renowned for his pioneering contribution to Assamese Cinema as the producer of some of the masterpieces ever made, like Holadhia Choraye Baodhan Khai and Xagoroloi Bohudoor. He is widely recognized for his role in producing several critically acclaimed films, many of which have been honored with both national and international awards. He also did a commissioned program titled “Shruti Madhur” for Doordarshan Channel in 2005.

Apart from working in the film industry, he was a sports enthusiast and a dedicated cultural activist. He was a member of the Guwahati Sports Association. However, his health restricted him from becoming a sportsman. Together with a group of friends, Sailadhar played a major role in establishing the Kristhi Vikas Sangha, a sociocultural club. Moreover, he was also the founder, chairman, and director of the Assam Institute of Mass Communication and Research. He passed away on 10th January 2010, in Guwahati.
