The second season of this popular franchise premiered on September 22, 2008, and ended on May 11 2009. Season two begins with Penny and Leonard returning from their first date. Howard and Raj spy on them through a webcam which is found out by Leonard. Howard asks Leonard if he messed up the date, to which Leonard denies. Penny confesses about lying to Leonard about her college degree to Sheldon who spills the secret in front of Leonard in a drunken state.

Leonard starts a relationship with Leslie winkle after seeing Penny with her new boyfriend. The relationship doesn't last long as Leonard has to choose between Sheldon and Leslie during one of their arguments and he ends up choosing Sheldon. Penny gets addicted to video games but soon ends when she realizes she accepted a date with Howard virtually. Raj gets selected to be a part of a famous magazine honoring him which incites jealousy among his friends. He takes Penny to the party and in a drunken state introduces her as his girlfriend to his parents on webcam.

The night ends in a total disaster for both Penny and Raj which results in Raj apologizing to Penny the next day. Sheldon goes through driving lessons as Leonard's busy schedule doesn't allow him to drop Sheldon off work. Sheldon comes face to face with a student named Ramona who is obsessed with him. She helps him and also pressurizes him to finish his work. He feels threatened and troubled by her presence and goes to Penny and Leonard’s aid for assistance. He finally kicks her out when she wants to share the achievement with Sheldon.

Penny and Sheldon get on each other’s nerves when Penny sits on his spot and Sheldon banishes her from his house. They trouble each other until Penny has to complain to Sheldon's mom who asks Sheldon to apologize to Penny. The season has many hilarious rib-tickling episodes. The season two focused on improving and building the characters of the show. The audience gets to analyze the characters of Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, Howard and Raj; they find out their natures and characteristics.

Leonard and Penny have an on and off relationship with each other which goes on throughout the entire show. The season ends with Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj leaving to North Pole on a three month expedition to detect magnetic monopoles and the validity of string theory. The series opened with a lot enthusiasm from the audience due to its popularity in the first season.
