Janani, telecasted in 1995 on Doordarshan, was a mega-hit and reintroduced with the same name. However, it is not a complete remake, showcasing the issues of today’s society.

In this version, the story starts with a happily married couple having four sons. After their father passed away, they became confused about where to keep their mother. Firstly, they decided to keep her in a nursing home. However, thinking about the money they might receive, the idea is dropped. Finally, they concluded that the mother would stay with each son for three months. However, they are just doing it for their selfish interests.

The serial highlights the decay in family bonds resulting in the presence of charity homes for the old.

Anuradha Roy is in the lead role, and the four sons are Shankar Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen, Saurabh, and Kushal Chakraborty in the new ‘Janani.’
