Chunauti was one of the most popular TV series during the 1980s. It was aired for 22 episodes only, and the serial was a discovery of talent for many young TV artists of India. The story revolved around a college, and it’s principal. The principal is a role-model teacher and shoulder various problems that existed in today’s education system such as ragging, admission, mass-copying, donation, drug addiction, irresponsible teachers, miserable hostel conditions, etc.
Although the principal faced much adversity in tackling the problems with our education system, at last, he emerged a winner. The principal Shastri became a household name in the country then, after the serial was telecasted. The serial was produced by Rakesh Chowdhary and directed by Sanjiv Bhattacharya. Dialogues were written by Mir Muneer and Camera Work was done by Nerkar. Art director of the serial was C.S. Bhatti and the cast included many known faces such as
Arif Zakaria, Sunil Puri,
Rita Bhaduri, and
Archana Joglekar. Singer '
Amit Kumar' had sung the title song of the serial.
It was telecasted during the years 1987-1988 on Doordarshan.
