Plot

Kaali and Maayan are husband and wife. They have a daughter Amuthavalli. Maayan has a sister, Meenakshi. She is married and has a son. Maayan presents his sister with a lump sum during one of her family functions. Unable to do the same in return, Meenakshi’s husband dies. Meenakshi is left alone with her son after her husband has gone. Years roll down, and Kaali expects her sister-in-law Meenakshi to do the same for her family function, as her husband presented her a couple of decades back. What will Meenakshi do? Will her son get her a good name? The rest of the film deals with this.

Star Performance

The senior stars did their part well. Radhika has once again proved her versatility. Viji is good in her role. Lovelyn is okayish, and Saravanan is the one who often disappears like the TV serial character. Marimuthu, Ramamoorthy, and Ganja Karuppu had done what was offered to them.

Analysis

These kinds of stories came in the 80s and early 90s and attracted people. But, if the story and execution are reasonable, it could be accepted even in 2022. Marutha has a good set of actors who have performed enough for the given roles. But, the execution didn’t meet the expectations. The dialogues are old-fashioned, and some scenes resemble the films in the 60s and 70s. Ilaiyaraaja’s music is impressive, and in many scenes, his BGM helps the film move forward.

Verdict

If certain scenes had been shot well and the screenplay had been penned better, the film would have reached a wide range of audiences. If you don’t have any movies to watch this weekend, you can try this!
