Plot

The film is about a cowardly man named Pappachan, a jeep driver and farmer. His father, Mathachan, popularly known as Moustache Mathachan, is a hunter. He is highly respected and admired in his village. But his son Pappachan is just the opposite of him. He is a coward and lacks courage. However, he has a habit of bragging and boasting. He tries to earn the same respect and attention from the villagers as his father does by portraying himself as a heroic figure.

Despite all his efforts, he fails to become a hero in the eyes of the villagers. All of them start calling him a bragger. He claims that one day he will hunt down a buffalo but fails in this too. His bragging skills bring him a lot of trouble one day. One of his lies makes things worse for him. He hides to save himself from the forest department officials and the police.

What is this lie that brings so much trouble to Pappachan? Will he be able to overcome this trouble?

Star Performance

Saiju Kurup, who played the role of Pappachan, gave a fantastic performance. He perfectly shows all the characteristics of a coward and a bragger. His comedy makes the film interesting. From seriousness to bragging, he shows all the emotions in the right proportion. His dialogue delivery and acting are remarkable.

Vijayaraghavan, who played the role of Pappachan’s father, looks very brave on the screen. He looks very natural on the screen. Darshana Sudarshan, who played the role of Pappachan’s ex-girlfriend, executed her part perfectly. She looks beautiful on the screen. Srindaa looks good in the character of Urvashi.

Aju Varghese, Kottayam Nazeer, Jagadish, Alexander Prashanth, and the rest of the supporting cast look fine on screen. They tried their best for this film.

Analysis

Pappachan Olivilaanu is an impressive and enjoyable film set in the beautiful village of Mamalakunnu, a hilly area. The comedy in this film is appealing to the viewers. It explores the themes of bravery, self-worth, and truthfulness. Saiju Kurup’s comedy and his struggles in the end are the most interesting parts of this film. The film is similar to Biju Menon’s film, Vellimoonga. The cinematography by Sreejith Nair adds an aesthetic feel to this film. The rural landscapes are beautifully captured. The music and the songs further enhance this movie.

However, the film takes time to reveal the main story. The first half is very slow-paced, showing only the repetitive bragging by Pappachan. Many characters appear and disappear without creating much impact. As a whole, the technical aspects and the performances of the leading cast hold the film firmly and make it engaging.
