Plot
A 17-year-old boy, Rohan, has just been expelled from one of Shimla's boarding schools and comes to stay in Jamshedpur with his sadistic father, Bhairav Singh, and his half-brother. Bhairav desires Arjun to work in his metalwork factory and study engineering at the university simultaneously. On the contrary, all Rohan wanted was to become a writer. He failed all his classes, hoping that it would pressure Bhairav less. Later, he lost a big contract. Bhairav was furious, so he beat Rohan, though apologizing the next day. Bhairav now decided that Arjun should take Rohan to boarding school and make him work a full-time job at the factory. He burns the diary of Rohan and introduces him to his new wife and stepdaughter. As Bhairav refuses to help him, Rohan breaks his car and is imprisoned for one night. Rohan convinces Arjun to go along with him to Bombay. He leaves behind a watch and a note that warns that if he comes searching for them, he will tell the police all about his physically abusive nature. Both brothers start their new life in Bombay.
Star Performance
It is the case of a wonderful performance from Rajat that brings out the loneliness and frustration of a free-spirited young boy torn by his inner confusion. At the very best, Ronit Roy's performance can be termed mind-blowing. Rohan's uncle is done by Ram Kapoor, who has played his role crisply.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, 'Udaan' happens to be one of the Hindi gems that talks about freedom, dreams, and the courage to break the shackles of society. The coming-of-age tale swept through the Indian film industry in 2010 and got great reviews; it has moving, brilliant acting, and mesmerizing music, all the elements that make Udaan stand out. Udaan is very special to watch and touching because of the placement of the story. Well, it does have the 'life-changing movie' part to its credit, and probably the reason for that would be that it isn't a fantasy film.

Verdict
Udaan figures at the top of the list of the most underrated feel-good drama flicks. The movie is very inspiring, and it makes you feel involved in it—notably special, pretty divergent from the kind of offerings Bollywood usually gives to us.
