Plot
The film has two tracks: one before Indian independence and the other in the current time. The plot revolves around the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings, which is also known as Direct Action Day. After the tragic event, the violence spread widely to the rest of Bengal. It also led to the Noakhali riots of 1946. The communal violence burst out, killing people in huge numbers. The clashes between two religions are the basic plot. Shiva is a Special Investigation Officer. He is given the responsibility to find out a missing girl, Gita, in Murshidabad. The case has two prime suspects, Sardar Hussieni and Bharti Banerjee. The majority suspect Sardar, as he had helped a lot of Bangladeshi immigrants to enter West Bengal illegally. Did Shiva solve the case? Did he find out the girl? What are the other issues dealt with? The rest of the film speaks about that.
Star Performance
Anupam Kher performs Gandhi, Darshan plays Shiva, and Mohan Kapur plays Suhrawardy. They are in the film, but these are not their fullest performances. Pallavi Joshi plays Bharti, and Simratt plays her younger version. Both have done their best. Mithun Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee are good in their roles. Namashi Chakraborty has delivered a decent performance.
Analysis
The film runs for more than 3 hours, which is the biggest drawback. The film has a lot of violent scenes, including the children being threatened and shot dead. Those were very cruel. There had been movies with such killings, but with less bloodshed shows. The film has a lot of logical loopholes. Even the historical incidents are not properly shown or explained. The research was good, but the writing and execution were not fine. The heavy dialogues with information to showcase Bengal’s greatness are not simple. The narrative is scattered with lengthy tracks. As it is not sharp, it struggles hard to create an impact.

Verdict
The film is too lengthy and tests the patience. If some scenes had been cut, and some had been trimmed a bit, it would’ve been better to watch! Yet, for some good performances, you can try this once!
