Ankita Lokhande as Yamunabai Sarvakar and there many other supporting actors. The film is directed, co-written and co-produced by Randeep Hooda. Plot
Swatantrya veer Saravakar depicts the life of one of India’s most influential revolutionaries during India's struggle for independence. Sarvakar from his childhood, faced many injustices, from the plague in 1897 to becoming a revolutionary inspired by Shivaji Maharaj and igniting his patriotism. He found a secret society to fight with the Britishers against the injustices. He went to London to study law and joined India House there. Sarvakar completed his thesis on the War of Independence in 1857. He also secretly dispatched weapons to India to continue the secret society Sarvakar had created. The imprisonment at Kala Pani for 15 years, the hardships and the endurance and fighting spirit under the harsh brutal conditions.
He coined the term Hindutva and his political ideology behind Hindutva and continued his protest for a united India. The film shows Sarvarkar's views against the nonviolent movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, offering a controversial take on their different ideological views.
Post his release, Sarvakar was involved in the Hindu nationalist movement, his role in Indian politics, and his military approach to bringing independence to becoming a prominent leader. Â
Star performance
Randeep Hooda's spectacular performance is intense and compelling. His physical transformation and portrayal bring depth and life into Sarvarkar's character.
Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial as supporting lead actors with strong performances.
As Randeep Hooda also makes his director debut, Hooda does deep and thorough research on Sarvarkar's life events. But sometimes the film sequences look disoriented.
Analysis
The film's storytelling is captivating and enthralling, bringing into the world of Savarkar and evoking a sense of patriotism, but the film's direction and narration should be criticised for misinterpreting the history. The film gives heavenly importance to Sarvarkar's contributions that come at the expense of other historical figures not properly depicting other figures, showing a one-sided narrative that sparked deep debate among audience and historians. The film does not present a balanced view of the contributions Sarvakar made during India's struggle for freedom. The film portrays Gandhi's character as a politically correct yet somewhat ineffective leader compared to Savarkar in the film. Hooda's performance as an actor and as a writer with detailing and thorough research are well appreciated. Many scenes give a shiver in the body like kala pani Jail scenes. The film is hagiography and historical drama losing its focus without a strong foundation.

Verdict
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is an informative and inspiring movie that maintains the legacy of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Randeep Hooda’s performance in the film is mind-blowing and one of the strongest assets of the film. The acting is very impressive but the film direction failed to bring a balanced view without misinterpreting history. It's a good watch for people who are history lovers and like patriotic films.
