Kanpur born AmitSial’s childhood hero was none other than , but his infatuation did not end there. From the age of eight years he dream of becoming an actor like him. Fortunately, he had an understanding and supportive mother, a librarian by profession, who could discern that creative streak in him. She actively encouraged his participation in theatre activities, first in Kanpur and later on when he moved to the Delhi and met up with eminent theatre personalities like , who directed him for a professional musical being staged that time. Being pragmatic, his businessman father also thought about an alternative for Amit, just in case he had to fall back upon some regular profession. He was sent to Melbourne to complete a course in International Business, and after coming back worked in Delhi for a couple of years. His overbearing passion for acting however ultimately drove him to Mumbai, with the intention of settling down into an acting career. He was fortunate to have been recommended to director for an Into American production. He had to bring up all his background training in drama to get through the rigorous audition and finally made it by grabbing the lead role.He, however, did not lose his touch with theatre, having played an important role in Naseeruddin Shah’s adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s “Arms and the Man”. It became evident that his love for the stage was much more than an intention of just becoming a run of the mill movie actor. He had by then formed his own production team and started directing short plays, being associated with theatre quite actively for a decade. Although he has acted in some mainstream commercial films like “Phas Gaye Re Obama" he was first critically noticed in director ’s Love Sex aur Dhokha” and later on in "" by . However, of more significant impact has been the selection of another Dibakar Banerjee movie “”where Amit has played an important role, for screening at the Cannes Festival, taking Amit Sial one more step ahead in his resolve to be acknowledged as an actor of some class.
