Maxima Basu

Maxima Basu is a well-known costume designer from Delhi. Maxima is also an Earth lover and a scuba driver. She has worked for various films and has created a wardrobe ranging from majestic clothes to ragged clothes. Her wardrobe selection has intensified the films she was involved in. She has worked simultaneously on three different films at a time. They were: ‘Padmavati’ (Bhansali production), ‘Raabta’ (Maddock production) and ‘Dangal’ (Aamir Khan production). In ‘Dangal’, she replaced Manoshi Nath and Rushi Sharma who are popularly called as Manu-Rishi. For ‘Raabta’, she had to design some armoury and for ‘Padmavati’, she had to create a jacket for Ranveer Singh. Initially, she was in advertising and later ended up as a design assistant in ‘Slum dog Millionaire’ for Danny Boyle. She later became the design assistant to Anusha in the movie ‘Peepli Live’. She jumped to that film as she thought that the script was wonderful. Her team was a closed team. Although she was the design assistant, she also contributed to the casting of that movie. She also worked as an executive director. At the last moment, when they could not find a costume designer since they were running low on budget, she offered to design costumes for the movie as well. She received her first Filmfare nomination because of her remarkable work in the film. She started working for ad films and later became the assistant director for Anand Gandhi in the movie‘Ship of Theseus’. She later got a call from Bhansali Productions to work for the movie ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ramleela’. She later realized that the person she replaced was none other than Sabyasachi Mukherjee. She designed costumes for everybody starting from Ranveer, Deepika to the dancers and secondary actors. She has also signed up as a costume designer for other movies like ‘Bank Chor’ in 2017 and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ in 2015. She also worked for an international film called ‘Echoes’. She later got married to Prashant in Kanpur, in 2016. They met on a film set where Prashant was working as an Art Assistant. She currently lives in Mumbai although she is originally from Delhi. She studied at Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication. She was a costume designer at Bhansali Production andhas been a former costume designer at Aamir Khan Production. She has worked at Recyclewala Films and also had been an Assistant Director at Nirvana Films.
