The film was still left for production when Rishi Kapoor went to the heavenly abode. To complete the film, actor Paresh Rawal was added on to complete the impending scenes and played the character of ‘Sharma Ji’, which was played by Rishi Kapoor. Hence, Sharmaji Namkeen is a film with two actors playing the same character. Sharmaji Namkeen pays tribute to the legendary actor of Indian Cinema, Rishi Kapoor. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video.
As the film’s title suggests, the plot revolves around the central character ‘Sharmaji’ played by Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, who is a widower and he retired early, at the age of 58. Sharmaji stays with his two sons. Due to his boredom, Sharmaji tries to find small jobs that would make him entertained and engaged. Because of his extraordinary cooking skills, he is advised by his friend to become a caterer for kitty parties. At one such kitty party, he meets Veena Manchanda, another widow, and befriends her. He continues to cater for many such kitty parties. His sons somehow come across a video of Sharma Ji dancing at one such kitty party and get humiliated by their father. In a rage, his sons expose some of their secrets to Sharma Ji, which leaves him devastated. Regardless, he decides to follow his hobby of cooking, and things turn tense in Sharma Ji’s family as he gets to know about things his son had hidden from him, eventually bringing the family closer.

The film Sharmaji Namkeen successfully delivers what it promised to be, that is, Humorous, family drama, and emotional at times, a complete family entertainer. The film’s storytelling was brilliantly done by the makers. The death of Rishi Kapoor left the movie at a standstill point for an extended period. The makers had even thought of going with CGI techniques to complete the scenes with Rishi Kapoor. Ranbir Kapoor, the son of Rishi Kapoor, too, was contemplating completing the remaining scenes with the help of prosthetics. At last, the makers brought Paresh Rawal to play the character of Sharmaji, and he helped in completing the remaining scenes. Both actors have portrayed the character brilliantly, each bringing their charm to the character. The simple, light-hearted story of a retired widower is packed with hope and happiness, posing as the perfect tribute to the iconic Rishi Kapoor.

Sharmaji Namkeen is a must-watch film, especially for it is Rishi Kapoor’s last film. The plotline and storytelling are worth watching. The sweet family drama, which comes with comedy and the slice-of-life genre, perfectly creates an appealing watch that makes sure to grip the audience till the end.
