Vikram K Kumar (director of the award-winning short film ‘Silent Scream’) is back with a dramatic horror Film 13B.

Plot

The story starts when Manohar (R. Madhavan) coming to stay in Flat 13B on the 13th floor with his wife Priya (Neetu Chandra) and all other family members. The women in the family love TV show ‘Sab Khairiyat’ and watches every show without fail. Manohar is also enjoying his life but suddenly things are changing, and strange incidents are happening around his family.

Manohar observes that what happens in the TV show begins to take place in his family. He experiences supernatural occurrences at his 13B apartment but not outside. Things become worse for him, and he becomes terrified to lose his family. He wants to know who is behind this TV show. And he reveals an unnatural secret that the apartment of 13B was news anchor Chitra’s family who was killed brutally. Shriram Shinde was a passionate lover of Chitra. He wanted to stop Chitra’s engagement, but he failed so he committed suicide. His brother Dr. Ballu took revenge on Chitra’s family by butchering all eight members of the family in a matter of just one day. Dr. Ballu imagines Manohar’s family as Chitra’s family as they are living in the same apartment. He tries to kill them, but Manohar protects his family and kills Dr. Ballu. The story ends when Manohar receives Dr. Ballu’s call who haunts him again.

Star Performances

R. Madhavan (Maddy) plays a middle-class person’s role whose dream is to buy a new apartment and makes his family happy. He plays Manohar’s character ably and, in fact, is one of the highlights of the movie. Neetu Chandra is pretty good. She makes her Tamil debut with this movie and works very hard on her dialogues. It elucidates how people relate TV show’s characters with their lives.
The movie has many different features which make it different from other horror films. The occurrences are unnatural and have much suspense.The story revolves around 13B apartment as title shows, but the main protagonist is TV. Use of bilingual language shows movies another different feature.

What’s there?

The cinematography of P C Sreeram is par excellence.
The background score gels with the mood of the film.
Certain scenes are commendable.

What’s not there?

When the audience is totally engrossed, the screenplay plays spoilsport. Watch the movie to understand this.
What about the role of the blind man? It ends abruptly.

Verdict

The movie is for horror loving people who believe in supernatural spirits and can understand psychological aspects.
