Plot

Nadine Franklin is at the center of the story. She is a seventeen years old girl. Unfortunately, she lost her father when she was thirteen years old.

She was not on good terms with her mother, Mona and her brother, Darian. Krista was her bestfriend. One day, Mona was not at home because she went to meet her boyfriend. In her absence, Nadine and Krista got drunk. When Nadine woke up in morning she found Krista and Darian on the same bed. Next day Krista insisted her to join a house party where Darian was also going to be there. Nadine was unable to mingle with anyone, so she left the party frustrated. She turned to her classmate named Erwin.  He had a crush on her. However, when he tried to kiss her, she refused. At school Krista tried talking to Nadine. Nadine claimed that Darian will soon brake up with her, she made Krista choose between the two of them. When she refused, Nadine ended their friendship.

One day, she visits Erwin’s house. It was huge. She also accepts the invitation to a musical festival. Mona drops her at the school gate, but she discovers that Nadine and Krista are not on good terms. Mona took her to office where they had an argument about her father. Disappointed, Nadine took the car and left. She sits in a car and texted Nike, a senior whom she had crush on. The text was a little sexual. At school she claimed to Mr. Burner that she will kill herself. He took him home. There, Nadine met Mr. Burner’s wife and children. Mona reports to Krista and Darian that Nadine is missing. They found her. At the end they solved things out.

Star Performance

The leading actor in the film is, Nadine Franklin. Hailee Steinfeld played Nadine’s character. In the movie, she has done a good job. Her acting skills were consistent and emotional. Nadine’s character was a tough one, but Hailee handled it well. Her chemistry with others was also good.

Krista’s character is another significant character in the film. Haley Lu Richardson played her role. Haley did a great job in the movie. She fitted in Krista’s character. Her skills were full of emotions that made the film enjoyable. Darian is another essential character. His chemistry with other actors was good. The supporting cast includes Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwic. They did a great job in the film.

Analysis

The film touched upon the issues faced by many teenagers nowadays. It is a fantastic movie. The script of the film was totally up to the mark. The execution of the film is brilliant as well. The movie had awkward humour, which is a good thing. Most of the teenagers go through this timeline. So through Nadine’s character, the filmmakers showed that. The primary and supporting cast did a great job. The characters presented in the film were matured and brilliantly structured. However, the plot of the film is predictable.

The cinematography of the film is good. Moreover, the camera angles were precisely good. The soundtracks used in the show were enjoyable. Also the film’s pace is to the point. The editing is also fantastic. The script’s duration was great too.
