Plot:
This story happened in 1987. Sherrie goes to Los Angeles to become a singer in 'The Bourbon' bar. Someone steals her suitcase, and Drew Boley, a bar back working In the bar goes for searching, but fails, unfortunately.
He helps her by getting a job as a waitress. Dennis Dupree, the club owner, and Lonny Barnett, his assistant try to pay off their debts. So they book Stacee Jaxx for a performance, to generate some revenue. But on the event day, the show gets protested by Patricia, the mayor's wife.
Eventually, the show gets canceled. Stacee's manager arranges an interview with Constance, a reporter. Stacee orders Sherrie to get him a bottle of scotch. Meanwhile, in his green room, Stacee and Constance make love. After sometime, Sherrie gives the scotch and leaves the room.
Drew asks about the incident to Stacee, and he lies that he made love with Sherrie. Sherrie and Drew split in their ways. Will they get back together? Shankman makes the whole performance groovy and tries to divert the audience from letting them realize how weak the story is.
Rita Ryack's costume design work needs a special mention as it gives us the feel of the 80's. Few of the musical performances were good as well. Hough was able to perform few songs well, but it cannot be named as her best. Boneta's performance was surprisingly good.
But Mary's singing performance overshadowed everyone's performance. The movie seemed to be a never-ending one. Unfortunately, the story is just simply to fill the gaps between each and every musical performance.
Verdict:
A mixture of blinks and pokes.
