Plot
Malcolm Adekanbi and his two friends James Caldones ‘Jib’ and Cassadra Andrews ‘Diggy’ are the ‘geeks’ at their high school. They live in a high-crime area in Inglewood, California. Malcolm wants to be admitted to his dream university, Harward University and is preparing for its admission procedures and interviews. He and his friends are very ambitious about 90s rap and are into rapping.
Once while riding their bikes, h encounters Dom, he is a drug dealer, and asks Malcom to invite a girl named Nakia to his birthday party. Nakia is also Malcom’s crush and after he conveys his message, she tells him that she will only go if goes too. Malcom agrees and goes to the party.
Dom and his gang are doing their drug smuggling at the party when they get interrupted by another armed gang and start shooting there. Everybody starts panicking and starts running randomly. Dom puts a lot of drugs and a gun in Malcom’s backpack without anybody noticing. Malcom escapes after taking his bag, rescues Nakia, till then the police arrive, and Nakia drives Malcom to his home.
The next day Malcom sees drugs in his bag when he is at school and finds an iPhone also. What will happen next? What will Malcom and his friends do? What if someone discovers this, will Malcom be able to achieve his dream?
Star performance
Shameik Moore played his role well; he is amazing and entertaining. He did an outstanding job of engaging his audience with his comedy scenes. Tony Revolori excelled in the role, his dialogue delivery and acting are charming. Kiersey Clemons seems bold in the movie; and her role is amusing. A$AP Rocky has done fantastic acting; his role is one of the most power holding roles in the film and he very well executed it. Zoe Kravitz did well and seemed beautiful and elegant in the movie. Chanel Iman has done superbly in the film, her role is one of the funniest, even though she is shown for a less time, she has done a stunning job, her cameo is one of the most engaging parts in the film. The star cast has done an astonishing job and made the most entertaining film.
Analysis
Dope is a comedy, drama film, that showcases many crimes and their after-effects. The screenwriting and the screenplay go well together. The cast understood the assignment and did their best. The BGM, visuals and the music are amazing and go well together.
