Veteran Filmmaker Panchu Arunachalam Passes Away!

Panchu Arunachalam, the veteran filmmaker, passes away in Chennai today, due to his age-related health issues. Panchu was a great lyricist, scriptwriter and a producer. He is the nephew of “Kannadasan,” the favorite poet of Tamilnadu. Panchu introduced “Ilayaraja” to the film industry with “Annakili.” Most of his films have “Rajinikanth” and Kamal Haasan in the lead roles. Panchu is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. Subbu Panchu, the son of Panchu Arunachalam, is among the best character artists in Kollywood. Panchu Arunachalam proved his mettle in lyric writing including Manamagale Marumagale Vaa and Pon Ezhil Poothadhu Pudhuvaanil. He is among the best script writers and dialogue writers in Kollywood. Recently, Panchu watched, “Kabali” with “Rajinikanth” in a special show. Although, he was not well during the time when Rajini invited him, without saying “No,” he watched the film along with Rajini and “Vairamuthu.” Our deepest condolences to Panchu’s family! May his soul rest in peace!
