Thangar Bachan
is one of the popular directors of Kollywood, who could capture the social and economic issues with his camera. He speaks for the farmers, who are losing their lives daily, because of the dry land without rain and Cauvery. He says, “Pongal is fast approaching. Like all of us, the farmer who is the real reason for the festival would like to celebrate it. We hear the death news of the farmers daily. But we couldn’t do anything. We won’t hear the weeping voice of the farmers’ family. Although they know that they will suffer loss, they do farming only for us. Many of them commit suicide as they could not run the family and many others die of the shock. The officials know the reason for the death. If the reports of the registered deaths have been taken with prompt action, then the farmers’ families would have got some compensation. But, the officials didn’t do that but send back the people, who come to apply for the compensation. They think that it will be a setback to the government if they show the real death rate of farmers. Farmers’ future becomes a question mark. How could a farmer celebrate this Pongal? Instead of wearing a new dress and posting it on the social website, if the people share this message, it would be useful for the farmers.”
