Gangai Amaran
, the popular filmmaker cum musician, had been chosen as the BJP contestant for the RK Nagar by-poll. Tamizhisai Soundararajan, the BJP leader, suggested him and had also been campaigning in the constituency for him. Lots of complaints were launched regarding the illegal disbursal of money and gifts to the voters in RK Nagar. Following this 75 were arrested and the cases are being dealt. The Election Commission of India decided to cancel the election, as crores of money had been used illegally. This is the first election for Gangai Amaran, as a politician. Earlier last month, when he was announced as the contestant, Gangai Amaran said that he was sure of his victory and he even dreamt of the place allotted to him in the assembly. Now his dreams are shattered, as the ECI canceled the election and announced that if there is no integrity, the election would not be conducted in the constituency.
