The filmmaker behind Meiyazhagan and 96 is not impressed with the negativity spread by some reviewers, who he believes have a specific motive : targeting the first week collections of each new release.

However, his comments on genuine reviewers have sparked further controversy, since he also said that even they don’t have the capacity to review a film. While the equation between critics and filmmakers has never been a smooth ride in Indian cinema, film criticism has taken a downturn in the past few years, especially in Tamil cinema.
