The entire film industry and the opposition parties are standing at the back of Mersal. Now, the Tollywood film industry has decided to protest against the GST levied by the central government. It is also heard that Tamil film industry would also join them in the protest, which will be organized in November. The Tollywood will be shut in November until their demands are fulfilled. Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce President, P Kiran stated that they are in talks with Tamil Film Producers before finalizing their protest. Meanwhile, the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce chairman C Kalyan stated they are discussing with the Marathi, Bengali and a few other industries regarding the shutdown. It is the West Bengal that minimized the tax to the film industry and they have to pay just 9% to the central government.
