An Anurag Kashyap film always has the element of realism. He never cushions the blow or sugarcoat things or provide mandatory happy endings. He showcases the life as it is like he did it in ‘ Ugly Click to look into! >> Read More... ’. As the name suggests, it explores the dark and ugly side of the characters. And how their greed blinds them from seeing the reality and leads to their destruction.
Anurag Kashyap uses dark humor in his films, something that other Hindi movies do not often explore. His last release “ Raman Raghav 2.0 Click to look into! >> Read More... ” revolved around a psychotic serial killer Ramanna and his obsession with a cop Raghavan. But amidst all the crime and violence, there is also elements of humor, especially towards the climax scene where Ramanna explains Raghavan the concept of soul mates.
He is a great storyteller who keeps his audiences engaged with the storyline. Be it Dev D in which he gave a modern take on ‘Devdas’ or Raman Raghav 2.0 which was not the usual cat and mouse chase. People always expect something but gets blown by something even better.
Anurag Kashyap has kept dialogues in his films which are intense and entertaining. Be it Gulaal, “Gangs of Wasseypur” or Black Friday, it has played an important part in making all his films memorable.
Anurag Kashyap has never let the problem of low budget effect the quality of his films. He prefers shooting in real locations with guerilla filmmaking techniques with hidden and hand-held cameras. He does not cast junior artists but keep real people in the background capturing natural reactions.
Songs in his films are very entertaining and go with the tone of the storyline. For instance, 'Ranaji,' the dance number in Gulaal which was performed by Mahi Gill was not just another item number but consisted of satirical lyrics.
His films have faced a lot of problems, his debut film Paanch, never got released, Black Friday got delayed due to censorship and many of his films had funding issues, but he never gave up and continued making meaningful cinema. And because of this he has become a source of inspiration for many young aspiring filmmakers.
