Hindi Comedian Shambhu Shikhar

Shambhu Shikhar is an Indian comedian, actor, and poet. He was born on January 10, 1984, in Madhubani District, Bihar. He took up Master of Arts at Delhi University. He has an extensive range of experience as a stand-up comedian and has been performing for a decade now. He also spent seven years working on TV and radio programs. He has appeared in shows like Comedy Circus, Just Laugh Baki Maaf, and many Doordarshan shows.

Shambhu also joined SAB TV’s Indian comic poetry series, “Wah! Wah! Kya Baat Hai!” and bagged the Chhupa Rustam Award in 2013. Shambhu is also writing articles, satires, and poems in several papers and magazines. He also has a regular column in Sopan-Step magazine. He is the winner of Aaj Tak’s Delhi Hansod Dangal.

For his brilliant work as a poet, Shambhu has already received many awards including Shravan Rahi Kavya Puraskar (2010), Sahitya Shikhar Samman - Panipat (2011), and Sahityik Kriti Samman - Sonepat (2012). In 2007, he was also awarded the Bharatendy Harischand Puraskar Award by the Hindi Academy in Delhi and Rajendra Nagar by the Rotary Club in 2010.

Shambhu was also one of the organizers of Hasya Kavi Sammelan, together with India’s leading poets.

Shambu expressed his concern over the changing dimension of stand-up comedy. He said that the audiences feel that similar to majority of comics he practiced risqué humor. He conveyed that humor is all about intelligence and one should have the audience in perspective. Shambu also added that an average Indian views humor with his family members and if the comics estrange themselves from the audiences then they are confining themselves. He has high regard for comedy and told that it need not resort to vulgarity to make one laugh.
