We all have heard about various dances like Indian classical styles, hip-hop, jazz, ballet, street dance and much, much more.
But do you know that the Indian film industry has its own dance style, the Bollywood style?
They have recently been given the tag of a genre in the dance shows like "Nach Baliye" and "
Jhalak Dikhla Jaa
". The reality shows have also started to consider it as a separate category.
What are the requirements? It needs nothing much. It’s very simple. Thumke, lachke, jhatke and a bindaas mood to dance khulke.
It is a dance suitable for any fun-filled situation. Be it a baaraat, sangeet functions, an immediate and spontaneous celebration of any happiness, or the opportunity to tease someone, the first moves that come to us are the Bollywood steps.
Lately, there have been dance classes which teach Bollywood dancing. For instance, “Nachle Ve with
” was a show in which learners from the common crowd came on stage. They were taught dance steps by the dance master Saroj Khan. Her steps included many of the Bollywood steps that can be effortlessly followed by the amateurs.
It doesn't have any style. It is just a fusion of all the styles making its discovery of style. This style can have its range of speed from slow to a hip hop beat. It can be easily termed as a freestyle before the freestyle came into existence. It is the Indian freestyle.
Bollywood dancing or the filmy dancing does not need any training; it comes naturally to those who have seen at least one Bollywood movie. The steps are for the common man. It is the only tip to be a film dancer.
A troupe of dancers is present in the background. They just follow one rule that who so ever they meet on the street, just knows what moves they need to do. The dramatic changes in the costumes and locations are typical in Bollywood.
The songs need not be fitting perfectly in the storyline. It can be a character's imagination, a dream sequence, or a situation that is irrelevant to the story line.
