Bollywood has always believed in remakes of older hits as the producers and directors are of the belief that if the movie was hit in that time then there are more chances of it being a blockbuster in present times. But making remakes mean a very tricky business and if the movie of which the remake is being made was a hit, then there is immense pressure on both the director as well as the actors of the movie to do justice to the role. If the movie is hit then there is no problem but if the movie flops at the box office then the makers of the movie are in for a lot of criticism.

So here is the list of some Bollywood remakes that were as good as the original one, in fact in some of the cases the remakes did even better than the original movie.

1. ‘ Don

The film which had Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles was a remake of the ‘ Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 famous movie with the same name. The movie was directed by Farhan Akhtar and garnered huge success at the box office, one reason of it being Shah Rukh Khan in dual role. But the critics gave mixed reactions to the movie and were not happy about the presentation of certain scenes and also raised questions for the remake. But it doesn’t matter much till the movie is doing well at the box office. Seeing the success of the movie a second part was also made and rumors are also there that the duo of Farhan Akhtar and SRK are gearing up for the third part of the series.

2. ‘ Agneepath

The year 2012 was very special for Bollywood as it saw a movie for the first time to make a box office business of 100crore and the special thing about it was that the movie which reached this landmark was a remake and it was ‘ Hrithik Roshan’s starrer Agneepath. The movie also had Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in titular roles. It was also the remake of cult movie of Amitabh Bachchan of the same name and his character of “Vijay Dinanath Chauhan” is still remembered as one of the greatest roles till now. And Hrithik Roshan was able to do full justice to his role which is evident from the fact that the movie did such a great business at the box office.

3. ‘ Devdas

The mega project of Sanjay Leela Bhansali was the third remake of the film. The film was released in 2002 and it was the most expensive movie that Bollywood had ever made and had a budget of 50 Crores. The film had Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles. The film lived up to its expectation and did great business both in India and overseas. The film was even included in the Time Magazine’s list of top 10 movie of the millennium and was event sent to Oscars. It was also screened at 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

4. Chashme Baddoor

The movie was the remake of the old classic of 1981 with the same name. The new movie had Taapsee Pannu, Ali Zafar, Siddharth Suryanarayan and Divyendu Sharma in lead roles. The movie revolved around three friends and the happenings in their life when they shared a apartment in Goa. The movie was an instant hit among the teenagers who were able to relive the magic that was created by the original flick in its time.

5. ‘ Force

One of the best hero-villain movie of its time, force is the remake of the Tamil movie Kaakha Kaakha. It was the debut movie of Vidyut Jamwal who was seen in a negative character. It also had John Abraham and Genelia DSouza in lead roles. It was a very successful movie in terms of box office so much so that John is ready with its sequel.

6. ‘ Drishyam

One of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2015 Drishyam was the remake of the Malayalam movie of the same name. The movie had Ajay Devgan, ‘ Tabu’ and Shriya Saran in lead roles. Ajay Devgan’s role was praised by each and everyone who saw the movie. It is till date one of the best thrillers that the industry has ever produced.

7. ‘ Singham

Ajay Devgan is known to be acted in a number of remakes and most of them have been blockbusters and one of them is Singham. This action comedy movie was directed by Rohit Shetty and was released in the year 2011. It was liked a lot by the people and garnered huge success at the box office.

8. ‘ Ghajini

The film starring the perfectionist of the Bollywood Aamir khan was the remake of the Tamil thriller Ghajini which was directed by ‘ A R Murugadoss’. Ghajini made and broke a lot of records at the box office and was termed as one of the biggest hit of the year.

9. ‘ Wanted

The movie starring the Bhai of the Bollywood Salman Khan. This movie was the turning point in Salman’s career as it was his comeback movie and boy it was a blockbuster and the audience loved Salman in the movie. The movie directed by Prabhu Deva was the remake of the Telugu movie ' Pokiri'. Wanted had Ayesha Takia as the leading lady of the movie. The movie was such a big hit for Salman Khan that it turned tables for him and now he is ruling the Bollywood with back to back hits, but the point to remember is that it all started with Wanted.

10. Rowdy Rathore

This remake was also directed by Prabhu Deva starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. The movie released in 2012 was the remake of Telugu film ' Vikramarkudu'. The start of the movie was slow but it picked up pace slowly at the box office and had a good box office collection.
