S. P. Ramanathan was a sound engineer in the Indian film industry. He had worked for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, and Odia movies. Ramanathan graduated in radio engineering in Malaysia. His maternal uncle, who had estates in Malaysia, requested him to take care of his business in Malaysia. But, due to his love for sound design, he refused the post, and joined the Tamil film industry.
In 1954, he worked for the Kannada movie Bedara Kannappa. He worked in the 1971 Tamil movie Then Kinnam. Music director Shankar and Ganesh duo composed the music for the film. In 1973, Ramanathan worked in the Kannada film Gandhada Gudi, featuring Dr Rajkumar. Bharatmlo Oka Ammayi, Hamsa Geethe, Na Ninna Mareyalare, Jai Vijay, Parashuram, Anbukku Naan Adimai, Varumayin Niram Sigappu, Sadma, Nenjathai Killathe, Adi Shankaracharya, and Jeete Hai Shaan Se are some of his ventures.
Ramanathan was the first sound designer to receive the Best Sound Designer Award at the National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... . In 1976, he received the award for his Telugu film Bhakta Kannappa. In 1977, Ramanathan received the award for his Hindi movie Godhuli.
