PVR Raja, also known as Penumatsa Venkata Ramaraju, is a Telugu film composer, record producer, songwriter, and guitarist from India. He was born in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, on June 1, 1985, to Penumatsa Satyavathi and Penumatsa Chandra Sekhar Raju. In 2005, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Andhra University and further continued his musical studies at Maharajah's Government College of Music and Dance.
Before becoming a composer, he was employed as a music instructor. Raja worked as a music instructor at St. Alphonsa's High School, Hyderabad Hindu Public School, and Shraddha Centre for Special Education. Raja debuted as a music director with the short film Arya 3, which was produced by Puri Jagannadh's own production company Vaishno Academy. He composed the background score for the movie One Hour, which was directed by politician and actress Roja Selvamani.
Raja also wrote the soundtrack for the Annapurna College of Film and Media-produced film Atma Rama Ananda Ramana. Since 2013, he has primarily composed the soundtrack for 250 independent and digital short films in the languages of English, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. Raja also served as music director for the L.B. directed and produced short films. He has been given the nicknames ‘Ilaiyaraaja of Short Films’ and ‘Short Films Maestro.’
At the 2011 National Youth Festival (India), he took home the Andhra Pradesh state award in the guitar category. Raja has the record for writing the maximum number of short Telugu films and has his entry in the India Book of Records.
