Ramesh Vinayagam

Ramesh Vinayagam, whose real name is Ramasubramaniam, is a singer, songwriter, music composer, instrumentalist, and arranger. His parent's name is Valli and Vinayakam. Both are prominent figures in the Indian Music Industry. He was a student of A. M. Jain College, Meenambakkam, Chennai, and did his graduation in commerce from the University of Madras. While in A. M. Jain College, he was the secretary of the Fine Arts section. All through his life as a student, he had participated and won several singing competitions. He was also passionate about cricket and played it actively. However, he had to quit it due to a teacher. He also met his friend Narayanan during this time, and they began to create their compositions. He has imbibed the knowledge of Western classical music under the supervision of Jacob John and Carnatic Music under the guidance of Rukmini Ramani. He also has a diploma in music from Trinity College, London. Although he was musically inclined, he took up a desk job at a firm. The owner of the company was his family's friend. His stint there and a chance meeting with S. P. Balasubrahmanyam made him realize that music is his true calling. He has worked on films and albums like Manchi Roju, Shambo Mahadeva, Hey! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukke, Krishna Janardhana, Aunty, Sri Rama Dootam, University, Moksha Mantra of Lord Shiva, Jerry, Vetrivel Sivasakthivel, Azhagiya Theeye, and much more. He has lent his voice to songs like Thottu Thottu Sellum, Vizhigalin Aruginil, Enna Idhu, Naan Pudicha Muyalukku, Yaaradimum Thondravillai, Sandhana Poongatre, Sadasiva, Andari Rathalu, Stop the Paattu, Thuli Thuliyay, and much more. At times, his songs have superseded the success of their films. Besides that, he created jingles for television advertisements and serials. He has also made Kamal Hassan, a veteran actor, sing a song from the genre of the county. He has also worked with Sri Sri Ravishankar on Art of Living, an event which Sri Sri Ravishankar conducts regularly. He is also busy working on Gamaka box, which can notate the gamaka or gamak, which is a musical flourish or note that singers use to enhance their performance. Very few musicians have worked with this concept before, and hence people call his work and research in it as ground-breaking. He has collaborated with people across various physical boundaries and languages. The personalities that he admires are Madurai Mani, K.V. Narayanaswamy, Ghulam Ali, Ajay Chakraborty, Johann Sebastian Bach, Asha Bhonsle, Chopin, Vilayat Khan, and Amjad Ali Khan.
