The film was directed by C. Umamaheswara Rao. In the year 1995, Kedar Shankar for the same director worked for Aravind Swamy’s Mounam (1995) which was produced by actor Aravind Swamy. This was a big project involving Aravind Swamy and Nagma. This film was dubbed into Hindi as ‘Moun’.
Later on, he got a chance to act for the film, Surya Putrulu (1997) of Mammootty. The film had Shobhana, Nagma, and Suman in lead roles.
In addition, the actor became an active member of Sumadhura Kalaniketan of Vijayawada. During his tenure, Kedar Shankar directed two government-sponsored films, Pragathi Bharatam and SadaMeeSevalo. He also directed a movie featuring Midday meal titled as 'ModatiAdugu. All these movies were government-sponsored projects.
Subsequently, he put his foothold even in television. He appeared in Eanadu Television’s daily Serial, ‘AdadeAdharam’. In this serial, he performed a role of Lawyer Chandrasekhar which got him applause from viewers. In this role, his character had some negative shades which were appreciated by household audiences. Later, he also got chances to act in Zee Telugu network serials such as Sikharam and PellinatiPramanaalu.
His first break in movies was through the movie 'Village Lo Vinayakudu' (2009) where he played actor Rao Ramesh's brother. After this movie, he got small role offers in many Telugu movies such as Gunasekhar’sVarudu (2010), AVM Production’s Leader (2010) Aneesh Krishna's Ala Ela (2014), MaruthiDasari's 'EeRojullo' (2012) and A. R. Murugadoss's ‘Ghajini’. Out of all these films, only two films ‘'EeRojullo' and ‘‘Ghajini’ did some impact on his lagging career.
It was only after the release of 'PelliChoopulu' where he played the role of hero's father, he got noticed by audiences. The film received critical and commercial success. It was a gem of a film and people accepted Kedar Shankar as a character actor.
People did not know till then who this Kedar Shankar was. He played the role of a frustrated father and his chemistry with the son worked well. The actor depicted all kinds of frustration in his character and confusion within him. Kedar got high applaud for this role.
