Giri Babu is an Indian actor, producer and director. He was born as Seshagiri Rao Yerra on June 8, 1943 in Ravinuthala, Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh. He has acted in more than 550 films in the span of 39 years. Giri is the father of the Telugu comedian actor, and the aspiring actor, . He got married at the age of 20 to Sridevi and aside from Raghu and Bose, they also have a daughter named Madhavi. Giri made his debut in the year 1973 through the movie Jagame Maya, with his best friend, . In an interview in year 2012, Giri stated that he is actually the one who launched the Jayabheri Art Pictures, a production company founded by Mohan and his brother . He adds that he and Mohan intended to make movies through the Jayabheri banner. He produced few films and he aims to make his son, Bose, an actor, but he never knew that it was Raghu who will become an actor. In the same year, Giri was presented the Honorary Doctorate by the AIM Westbrook University in USA for his great contribution to the cinema and social work.

Prior to his debut in the film industry, he is also into writing, playwright, stage plays and shows. During the 80s and 90s, Giri acted as a natural hero or a villain, who entertained the Telugu audience for quite too long. He is notable for the rape scenes he portrays convincingly. He successfully produced and helmed films like Indrajeeth (which stars Bose Babu), Simha Garjana, Merupu Daadi (which stars Suman), Ranarangam and Nee Sukhame Ne Koruthunna. From villain roles, Giri shifted to doing character roles by the end of 1990s. He was seen as the father of the hero or heroine, a friend or a good uncle in films like , Gilli Khajalu, Aavida Maa Aavide, Swayamvaram and more.Some of his films are Kurukshetram, , Naa Illu Naa Vaalu, Mundadugu, Merupu Dadi, Jackie, , Prema & Co., , Brahmachari Mogudu, Sisindri, Little Soldiers, Raa, Nuvve Kavali, Fools, Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishna Murthy, Athadu, Okkadunnadu, Classmates, Krishna and a lot more.
