Korlipara Balagangadhara Tilak, popularly known as K.B. Tilak, was born on 14 January 1926. The renowned film director and producer was also an Indian independence activist. He was born to Korlipara Venkatadri and Subbamma Denduluru in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. Tilak’s birthname was Balagangadhara Rao which was a homage to Bal Gangadhar Tilak. He completed his primary education at Municipal High School in Eluru. Inspired by the Indian Indepencse movement and willing to do something for the country, he joined the movement regularly. In September 1942, he participated in the Quit India movement and got imprisoned. During that time, he came in contact with Mote Narayana Rao and Karmanchi Rammoorty. Post-release from imprisonment after six months, he started working as a newspaper boy in the Congress Radio movement, which was the starting point of his career.
With his inclination towards theatre and drama, he actively participated in Praja Natya Mandali. He shifted with his uncle L. V. Prasad to Mumbai to pursue his dream and started developing connections with famous film personalities. Soon enough, he started building his career as a director and producer. 1956 was a crucial year for him when his first move, Muddu Bidda ZEE Telugu TV broadcasted the most long lived tele >> Read More... , as director and producer, got released. And since then, he has worked with multiple Tamil and Telugu films. For his fantastic work, he won B. N. Reddy National Award in 2008. The veteran director directed his last film Dharma Vaddi in 1982. He was a fantastic director and producer who took his last breath on 23 September 2010 at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.
