Ram Gopal Varma's debut film Shiva (1989) motivated him to pursue his passion, and he made his directorial debut in Porkkalam and directed another film named Asthamanam. On April 6, 2012, Asthamanam was released. Asthamanam is a 90-minute thriller film. Lieutenant did not work commercially, but he did establish an image for himself as a filmmaker.
