Srilekha Parthasarathy

Srilekha Parthasarathy is a playback singer in Tamil movies.  Being a natural singer her voice is always like a breath of fresh air. She has been singing at a tender age of four and got trained in her home culture. Even in her school days, she was crowned with the title Nightingale by New Delhi Tamil  Educational Association.  Srilekha was born in New Delhi and had only her maternal grandfather P. S. Varadhachari as her initial inspiration. Later she had been adamant to make her journey as a professional singer in movies. She came to Chennai, but she had no contacts with music directors.  Hence, she had to struggle a lot before making her debut. Her struggle continued for long three years; she used to take the appointment of music directors and meet the composers and give demo CDs and kept on following them to get a chance. Luck did shine when she did a jingle ‘Dhinanthorum Vaanguveer Idhayam’ for Idhayam oil. This advertisement featured actress Jyothika and caught the public eye. This advertisement gave her some confidence, and she made few more round of visits to the offices of composers. Luckily, music composer Harris Jeyaraj was looking for a fresh voice for the movie ‘Lesa Lesa’ and she sang the number ‘Edho Ondru, Edho Ondru’ in this movie. Although the film released after a long gap of three years, she became popular overnight.  She had created the same sensation with her another song titled ‘Vinodhane’ for the movie Thennavan.  Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja gave her another chance to sing  for film ‘Kurumbu.’  Srilekha has sung over 80 songs in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu and has performed in 600 musical concerts so far. She now wants to sing for Ilayaraja and A.R. Rahman. She had done many international musical shows in countries like Singapore, USA, Canada, Kuwait and Colombo. Her popular hits include ‘” Poo Mugam Siricha” ( Junction), ‘Kaadhalaagi" (Pop Corn), "Don't worry be Happy’’ (Whistle), etc.  She has sung some famous duets in Tamil cinema with S P Balasubramanian. Singing these songs have been challenging for her.  Srilekha had even judged a musical reality show ‘ Super Singer’ that was telecast on Star Vijay TV.  The singer also knows a bit of acting as she was acting in Delhi street plays and she even acted in popular soap opera ‘Dharmayutham’ that was telecast on Star Vijay TV.  She is wedded to singer M J Shriram, who is busy with his acting and singing assignments.
