S Amarnath for Surinder Amarnath Bhardwaj was born on 30th December, 1948 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is an Indian former One Day International and Test cricketer. Lala, his father and Mohinder his brother have also represented India at Test level cricket matches. He is known to be one of the most talented players from his time and age. The teams he has played for in the past are India, Delhi, Gujarat and Punjab. S Amarnath possessed an innate ability to destroy and bowler that came his way when he was in full flow. Against New Zealand in his test debut match, in New Zealand he scored a Century. He started off as a schoolboy prodigy and made his mark by winning the Ranji Trophy debut at the age of fifteen years in the year 1967 Indian schoolboys tour of England.
He continued to live up to his potential and scored a century at his debut in the unofficial Test against Sri Lanka in the year 1975 1976 this was followed up by his other century at the test debut in New Zealand. Like every sports person he favours one side of the other when it comes to batting and bowling respectively, he favours his left making him a left-hand bats man and while bowling he favours his right making him a right-hand medium bowler. Pratab Ramchand an Indian cricket writer wrote about S Amarnath that he was presented a raw deal by the national team sectors. He also commented on his batting ability saying he is an aggressive batsman.
He at times comes across as flashy, but when he is in full flow he is a treat to watch and can devastate even the best of attacker that come his way. He continued to head the averages in both the Test matched he played against England in the year 1976 1977. He scored two half centuries in four innings, yet he was met by an unfortunate injury early on his tour of Australia in the year 1977 to the year 1978 and had to return home. In January 1976, at the age of fifteen he scored his first century on his test debut match against New Zealand. He made his first class cricket debut at the age of fifteen years old. In a career that spanned from the year 1963 to the year 1985 S Amarnath scored 8175 runs at a batting average of 40.47.
