AVM Kumaran is a film producer cum educationalist. He was born and raised in Chennai. He is the son of AV Meiyappan Chettiyar, one of the pioneers of Indian cinema. Kumaran has eleven siblings, including half-siblings. He completed his schooling at PS High School in Chennai. After the death of AVM Chettiyar, as per his wish, M Saravanan and Kumaran restarted their production banner, AVM Productions, after a seven-year hiatus. Besides producing movies, Kumaran manages the AVM educational institutions. Started by AVM Chettiyar in 1963, Avichi High School was named after AV Meiyappan Chettiyar’s father, Avichi Chettiyar. In 1994, Kumaran followed in his father’s footsteps and established The Avichi High School For Girls. Then, in 1995, he established AVM Rajeswari Matriculation Higher Secondary School. It is also located in Virugambakkam. AVM Group runs these schools as a part of AVM Charities.
Besides producing movies, Kumaran also produced TV serials under the AVM banner. Since 1996, they have been producing TV Serials for all the satellite channels. Some of the serials produced by Kumaran include
